I am super excited to share this new feature in the 24 Hours in the life series.
Read on for 24 Hours in her life.
There is a very odd hotel that I’ve been driving past for years called The Madonna Inn, which is about an hour and a half north of Santa Barbara. It was built in the 50’s and each room is a different theme (Jungle Room, Pink Glitter Room, Caveman Room!!!). I finally got a reservation for a cave room with a waterfall shower, and my boyfriend and I set off on our adventure.
We got up in our house in LA early Saturday, in the morning, grabbed our suitcases and got in the car. We stopped by my Mom and Dad’s house in Santa Barbara to see their new puppy, Darwin.
He’s basically bit my face off, but he is very very cute. My Mom made us oatmeal cookies and we got back on the road.
We drove through Solvang, a Danish town in the mountains where I have been going since I was little. We decided to become friends with a group of people who were in a motorcycle gang, and they made us cocktails and we talked about initiation ceremonies to become part of the gang (they sign their names in blood!) My skirt blew up and they all saw my underwear.
Then we went to get Aebelskiver (a really good Danish dessert with powdered sugar). Sometimes I want to move to Solvang and buy a horse.
We drove through the mountains and listened to the new Broken Bells album (so good) and Tom Petty.
We stopped in Pismo Beach and watched the surfers. The ocean looked warm but I’m sure it was freezing.
Robb took some pictures of me but I looked like a blue whale. A massive wolf looking dog chased a tiny weiner dog about 5 blocks and we helped the owner track him down.
Finally we arrived at the Madonna Inn! Our room was TINY compared to the picture on the website, but still was hilarious and we had an entire bathroom made of rocks.
Took a shower under a waterfall and we got ready for dinner. I hung all my clothes up, to pretend that it was my closet and I lived there. I do this at every hotel, do you? I get so excited and it feels like a new home. We got to dinner, I wore these massive YSL heels and almost fell a million times. My boyfriend made fun of me for trying to look so fancy.
The dining room was ALL PINK and gold. Even the tablecloth matched the leather seats. There were pictures of old cowboys and celebrities that had eaten there. I ordered a baked potato and a piece of strawberry cake. We met an old man who said he had stayed in almost every room and that some of them are definitely haunted.
After dinner we drove around San Louis Opisbo to see what was going on. There was a renaissance festival in town and we decided to crash it. I wore a blanket and pretended it was a cape. We only stayed inside for about 3 minutes.
Then we went out to a divey little bar and saw some of our friends who were in town. Suzanne, one of my best friends, has a vintage store called Spanish Moss Vintage, where I get half of my wardrobe. We played Pac Man and had beers and talked about Nashville and the next Wildfox shoot. Suzanne is going to lend me things to help style it. After a while, we got very tired and decided to go back to the hotel. We curled up in the cave bed and went to sleep, it had been a very long day!!!
The beach shots are just stunning and scenic.
The pink 1950’s dining room is Barbie fantastic! How fun is the rock bathroom? I would never leave that hotel. I would want to stay in each room and explore!
The images of her eating Aebelskiver on the beach and at the end of night are gorgeous.
I enjoyed reading her fun adventure filled day; right from making friends with the motorcycle gang to the shower beneath the cave bathroom waterfall.
